The Sachin railway station is a small station near Surat.Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who is regarded as one of the greatest opening batsmen, took to Instagram to share his photo at a railway station in Gujarat that is named Sachin.

The 74-year-old, whose international career spanned from 1971-1987, joked that it was great “foresight of those in the last century to name a station near Surat after one of the all time greats”.

“What foresight of those in the last century to name a railway station near Surat after one of the all time greats of our game and my favourite cricketer but more importantly my favourite person,” Gavaskar wrote.

Tendulkar reacted to the post and replied with a cheeky comment. “Your words mean a lot, Gavaskar sir. Happy to see that the weather at Sachin is Sunny!” Tendulkar wrote.

“What are you doing there. Only local trains have stop there. Not express trains. It’s small station,” a user commented. “Thats my Village,, and its not after Sachin Tendulkar,” said another. “You are at a railway station and people are unaware of your presence,” wrote a third. “What a pity. Sunil Gavaskar the great is at a railway station, in India and people around are not aware who they are with,” said a fourth. “Sachin is located near Surat and now an industrial hub. Earlier it was a princely state,” posted another netizen.

Gavaskar played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs for India and was a part of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad. Gavaskar was the first player to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket. He held the record for the highest number of Test centuries (34) before Tendulkar went past him in 2005.
