Chennai Rains Today News Live Updates: (December 2) :The Chennai Meteorological Centre has predicted moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and rainfall for Saturday morning in 12 districts of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, the regional weather department has predicted light rain in 11 other districts of the state. Rainfall is expected in isolated locations across Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, Thiruppur, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Thirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Karaikal districts of Tamil Nadu. Schools in Puducherry, Karaikal and Yanam are to remain shut after IMD has issued a yellow alert as Cyclone Michaung likely to cross Tamil Nadu coast by Dec 4.

On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department reported that the depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen into a deep depression within the next 12 hours and subsequently develop into a cyclonic storm by December 3. The depression, as of 11:30 pm on December 1, 2023, had moved west-northwestwards at a speed of 9 kmph and was centered over the same region, according to an IMD release. The forecast suggests that it will intensify into a cyclonic storm over the southwest Bay of Bengal by December 3 and then move northwestwards, reaching the vicinity of the south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining

The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), headed by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, on Friday reviewed preparedness of state governments and central ministries and departments for impending cyclone Michaung in the Bay of Bengal. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has made 18 teams available to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Puducherry and 10 additional teams have been kept ready. Rescue and relief teams of the Coast Guard, Army and Navy along with ships and aircraft have been kept ready on standby, the statement said. Coastal districts along north Tamil Nadu and neighbouring southern Andhra Pradesh arebracing for cyclone Michaung early next week.
