Diablo 4 PTR economy planning centers on discounted Alchemist transmutes, Greater Temper material costs, and the gold fee for removing Tyrael's Boons points. Normal play supplies gold for these tests, while D4 Gold is a separate option rather than a substitute for measuring PTR costs.

    Prepare a clean test

The stated 3.3.0 PTR window runs from October 27 at 10 a.m. PDT to November 3 at 10 a.m. PST. Patch the PTR client, create a test character, and copy an existing character with a completed campaign if that option is available. The time-zone change matters: the opening and closing times use different Pacific time offsets.

Before visiting a vendor, record your gold, Obducite, and Scrolls of Restoration. A character with access to full world tier progression gives you a better starting point for checking Tyrael's Boons and endgame crafting stations. Keep screenshots and notes outside the game in case a reset removes your test character.

    Measure the Alchemist discount

Trash for Treasure reduces Alchemist transmute costs by 30% in the stated PTR setup. Start at the Alchemist and inspect the Forgotten Souls transmute path; Forgotten Souls feed the crafting chain, so their effective cost affects later upgrades.

Collect a full inventory of rare and legendary items, then check its total sell value at a vendor before disposing of anything. Compare that gold value with the materials available from salvaging and the displayed transmute costs. Do not sell the batch first and expect to recover those same items for the material comparison.

At the Alchemist, inspect the Obducite and Scrolls of Restoration paths separately. Record the gold fee, material inputs, and output for each transmute before confirming it, then compare those figures with your stock afterward. The key uncertainty is whether the 30% reduction applies to material inputs as well as gold fees; do not assume both are discounted.

    Track each Greater Temper attempt

Greater Temper upgrades a Tempered Affix into a Greater Affix, using a stated 30 Scrolls of Restoration and 1,000 Obducite per attempt. The Scroll cost is flat, so repeated attempts can drain the supply quickly. Check the recipe screen for any additional gold fee before confirming rather than assuming there is none.

For each attempt, write down starting Scrolls, starting Obducite, starting gold, the displayed result, and all three remaining totals. The inventory changes provide the confirmation that the materials were consumed; the item result tells you what the attempt produced. If an attempt fails, check the totals rather than counting on a refund.

Run three complete activity-to-crafting cycles if your stock permits. Each cycle should record gear collected, gold earned from sales, materials acquired or spent on transmutes, and the Greater Temper result. Divide the net gold change by the number of attempts to estimate the gold cost per attempt, while keeping the remaining material shortage visible.

    Check Tyrael's Boons before spending

Tyrael's Boons assigns points across four paths, and removing an assigned point carries a stated PTR fee of 5,000,000 gold. The stated pool is 132 points, so removing every point at that flat rate would cost 660,000,000 gold. That is a calculation, not a reason to spend the full amount during a short test.

Open Tyrael's Boons and check the displayed removal fee before confirming a single-point removal. Compare the gold total immediately before and after; a 5,000,000 drop would match the stated fee. If partial removal is available, repeat with a second point and check whether its position changes the charge.

Keep a separate point count for each path and reconcile the total against the stated 132-point pool. Also check what the interface permits when a point is not allocated, but stop before confirming any unexpected charge. An average of 33 points per path is arithmetic, not proof that each path has the same allocation limit.

Compare gold rewards with the cap

War Plans Tactics has a Gold reward node with up to three points. Record the gold received from a completed activity at one, two, and three points, using comparable activities where possible. The difference between ranks is more useful than a single payout because it shows what each additional point contributes.

Marks of Wisdom have a stated PTR cap of 20. Watch the displayed total as you collect them and record what happens when another Mark is earned at the cap; excess storage or loss still needs confirmation. If Marks restrict any part of the crafting or gold loop, that limit may matter more than the Alchemist discount.

Before the PTR closes, return to the Alchemist with your notes and check the current transmute figures against your recorded gold per attempt; treat cheap D4 Gold as separate from the in-game results. Save the single-point removal fee and your three-point Gold reward rate alongside those figures, and expect PTR values to change before release.

Testing Greater Temper, refining Tyrael's Boons, and upgrading seasonal gear can drain your gold quickly.
